About Us

The University of Malta LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual & Transgendered) Society was founded in January 2006 by a group of students who recognised the need for better LGBT representation on Campus. Student life is already filled with stress and anxiety, and having to deal with discrimination, loneliness and antagonism because of your sexual orientation makes it an even more difficult experience. The main aim of the LGBT Society is to provide a safe environment for the LGBT community at University and to show them that they are not alone.
The LGBT Society aims at bringing the community together in order to facilitate socialization, provide support for each other and ultimately to educate and encourage tolerance on Campus. By forming part of the KPS meetings and organising several kinds of activities both on and off campus, these aims will come closer to realization and the LGBT community will have their voices heard.

Till now there has been a lot of feedback, both from the LGBT community as well as from other student bodies and associations who believe in this cause. The LGBT Society is working hand-in-hand with MGRM (Malta Gay Rights Movement) and together we hope to generate awareness and create a more tolerant environment at University.

Our first meeting was met with a considerable deal of enthusiasm and an Executive Committee has been formed in order to deal with the administration and organizational part of the Society. More activities are currently being organized, including several trips abroad to conferences and seminars dealing with LGBT issues.
